The 3-year BA programme gives students core knowledge of European politics, culture, and society, whilst emphasizing Europe’s role in a wider global framework. Key concepts, such as culture, identity, diversity, democratic processes, Europeanisation and globalization are discussed in an interdisciplinary manner. Tackling European affairs through a sociological, political and economic lens, students gain a cross-sectional awareness of the many challenges contemporary societies are facing.
The programme equips students with tools to analyse current events and understand the complexities of political and socio-economic phenomena, moreover, prepares students for further education in the field of political science or international relations. In their second year, students choose a specialization based on their interests and thesis projects.
Our BA programme in European Studies is composed of high-level courses taught in English. Students may choose from 2 academic specialisations:
The BA in European Studies programme with a specialisation in Governing Europe and Central Eastern European Politics offers students an in-depth understanding of the political systems, governance structures, and policymaking processes shaping Europe and the Central and Eastern European region (CEE).
Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, students develop academic and methodological skills and engage with subjects such as comparative politics, EU governance, Human Rights Law, and others. Students of this specialisation explore the post-1989 transformations in the CEE region, as well as pressing contemporary political challenges, such as illiberalism or populism.
Programme graduates find employment in public administration, national and international institutions and organisations, EU institutions, non-governmental organizations, media and publishing. The programme also serves as the first step towards continuing the student’s academic education on a graduate and postgraduate level.
The BA in European Studies programme with a specialisation in Social Change in Europe explores the transformative forces shaping European societies, including contemporary digitalization, environmental movements, and social activism.
Students develop strong academic and methodological skills, analyze the dynamics of social change, protest movements, and gender politics, and examine how Europe responds to challenges like technological disruption, green transitions, migration and mobility, and shifting societal models.
With an interdisciplinary approach, this specialisation prepares graduates for careers in social research, policy analysis, and advocacy, as well as work in international organizations, NGOs, or media. The programme also serves as the first step towards continuing the student’s academic education on a graduate and postgraduate level.
