This masters programme gives you a unique opportunity to develop your understanding of the complex nature of managerial and organizational practices, and of the social, political and cultural context that organizations operate in.
The lenght of this programme is two years and you will obtain 120 ECTS credits and a degree in Master of Science with a main field of study in Management. The language of instruction during the programme is English.
The programme deals with several key questions that are confronting us in this day and age: What is the role of business in society, and what responsibilities do business organizations have? How and why do organizations change? How is power exercised in organizations, and how are dominant relations of power and authority challenged and resisted? How do employers seek to maximize the potential and performance of employees, with what consequences? Indeed, how can we think differently about organizational values and the things that make people in organizations valuable?
The programme will not provide you with definite answers to these kinds of questions, but it will help you develop conceptual and methodological tools that enhance your capacity to explore them in rigorous and creative ways.
Your curiosity for knowledge and learning is more important than the subject of your undergraduate degree. Thus, the programme is suited for students with undergraduate degrees in the humanities, in business administration or another social science subject. Whereas social science and humanities graduates will develop skills and knowledge specific to the field of management and organization, business graduates will enhance their understanding of this world by exploring it through novel perspectives beyond the field of business administration.
Through this programme you will develop a strong command of key theories and rigorous methods in management and organization studies. By working with case studies, research projects and experimental learning activities, you will also learn to apply this knowledge and refine a range of skills that are essential for a managerial and professional career in business, government and NGOs: in particular, you will strengthen your capacity for problematization and effective communication, and your ability to question and critically analyze prevailing structures and practices, established modes of thought and simplistic tool-box systems.
The programme provides a solid platform for students pursuing a career in general management, HRM and management consulting, a civil service career in government institutions and agencies, or a managerial or consultancy career in the NGO sector. The programme also provides an excellent starting point for students pursuing an academic career in research and teaching.
